Sony FX1/Z1U Suggested settings for Transfer to Film or Use with DVFilm Maker
Settings marked in red are the most important. Other settings
may be varied if you have a HD studio-quality monitor (>800 lines
resolution) to check the results. Omitted settings are up to the
user to determine for best results.
RECORD FORMAT = HDV 1080i (See Notes below)
Component = 1080i/480i
iLink Conv = OFF
TV Type = 16:9
Audio Mode = 16 bit
Zebra = 90
Steadyshot = OFF (when used on tripod)
SHUTTER = 1/60th or 1/50th Use 1/60th to reduce flicker with florescent or arc lighting
in 60Hz countries (like the US).
GAIN: Any gain setiing is acceptable, but be aware than the highest gain setting will yield a slight "grainy" effect, which can be pleasing but then it must be used consistently along with well-controlled exposure.
AUTO/MANUAL FOCUS, IRIS and WHITE BALANCE Get our book SHOOTING DIGITAL on recommendations for auto vs manual control of focus and exposure.
The Z1U may be used at either the 60i or 50i frame rate. See here for discussion of advantages of the 60i format.
