Sony FX1/Z1U Suggested settings for Transfer to Film or Use with
DVFilm Maker
Settings marked in red are the most important. Other settings
may be varied if you have a HD studio-quality monitor (>800 lines
resolution) to check the results. Omitted settings are up to the
user to determine for best results.
CAMERA SETTINGS
RECORD FORMAT = HDV 1080i (See Notes below)
Component = 1080i/480i
iLink Conv = OFF
TV Type = 16:9
Audio Mode = 16 bit
Zebra = 90
Steadyshot = OFF (when used on tripod)
SHUTTER = 1/60th or 1/50th Use 1/60th to reduce flicker with florescent or arc lighting
in 60Hz countries (like the US).
PICTURE PROFILE:
GAIN: Any gain setiing is acceptable, but be aware than the highest
gain setting will yield a slight "grainy" effect, which can be
pleasing but then it must be used consistently along with well-controlled
exposure.

Notes:
The Z1U may be used at either the 60i or 50i frame rate. See here for discussion of advantages of the 60i format.
