DVFilm Maker: the highest resolution method to deinterlace DV
Setting Motion Detector Sensitivity
The motion detector in DVFilm Maker determines whether pixels
should pass through the conversion unchanged (for best vertical
resolution) or whether pixels should be sampled from one field
only for best film motion.
The sensitivity of the motion detector is set from the Advanced
Options pop-up. The default value, 50, works best with most footage,
but it may need to be adjusted based on the type and quality of
video.
With the detector sensitivity set to zero, you should see video
pass through DVFilm Maker completely unchanged. But no film-motion
is applied.
With the detector sensitivity set too high, camera noise and compression
artifacts will trigger the detector and you will see an overall
loss of resolution even when no motion is present.
The way to choose the best value of sensitivity is to select "Show
Motion Detector Output" on the Advanced Options pop-up. The motion
detector output is white where there is motion detected, and black
where there is no motion detected. Select a value for the sensitivity
(starting and stopping the process each time) so that static areas
of the screen are perfectly black.
Any before-and-after comparisons of your video should be checked
on a television monitor, where each field is displayed in succession
at full resolution, rather than on the computer screen where either
both fields are displayed at once or only one field is shown,
and reduction of the image may be taking place.
